As we practice in the Chinley and Buxworth WI Hall, we wondered if the WI members would like us to go along to one of their meetings to talk about Morris generally and about the Cotswold tradition in particular. They jumped at the opportunity. Little did some members know that once we’d spent some time… Continue reading Chinley & Buxworth WI

Cracken Gets a Logo
Thanks to the talented Kerri, we now have a logo. Now we all want it on a T-shirt, on a beer glass, … and there was some talk of a tattoo.
Keeping Warm at the Old Hall Inn
Back to our “regular”… a first outing for our version of “Bleddy-Bamp”, a rather fun combination of Bledington Saturday Night and a Bampton Dance to the tune of Just as the Tide was Flowing, for which the audience were provided with word sheets and encouraged to sing the song. They did! Cracken gets a quality… Continue reading Keeping Warm at the Old Hall Inn
Northumberland Arms with Adlington Morris
Adlington Morris Men invited to share their dance-out at The Northumberland Arms, Marple Bridge. We’ve a lot of respect for the precision in Adlington Morris’ performances, so we had a bit of trepidation about dancing with them. The dancers rose the the challenge with some truly energetic capers and RTBs. A thoroughly enjoyable dance-out, ending… Continue reading Northumberland Arms with Adlington Morris
Beehive Inn with Chapel Morris Men
We like the Beehive Inn in Combs; it has a good area of road for dancing, good beer, an appreciative audience, and a thoroughly welcoming proprietor. Chapel Morris Men kindly invited us to their dance-out here, and we accepted immediately! A fun evening of dance, music, and banter… The Beehive Inn logo is (c) Beehive… Continue reading Beehive Inn with Chapel Morris Men
Buxworth Memorial Club
Time to embrace spring! Our first outing of the year was at the nearby “Buggy Club”. The weather was fine and the audience small but appreciative! All current dancers were out, so we managed a couple of double-sets. A fine start to the year.
Collecting Hazel Sticks
Thanks to the Peak Park Conservation Volunteers team, specifically Dave Cramp for arranging things and Nick Baker for being our host for the day, Jason, Beth, Lucy, and Adam spent a day weilding bow saws, loppers, and pruning saws in Coombs Wood near Stoney Middleton. A large quantity of hazel was coppiced and among all… Continue reading Collecting Hazel Sticks
Julie’s Farewell
To bid farewell to one of our founder members, before she heads off to southern climes, we decided to perform a few dances outside the Old Hall Inn, our usual post-practice pub on November 4th 2017. The weather was kind, and the van drivers whose shortcut we sporadically blocked were patient. Gallery
Post-Practice Pub
Our post-practice pub is usually the nearby Old Hall Inn, or sometimes at the Paper Mill Inn. We’re there from around 9:45pm on most practice nights, comparing the beers, planning the next adventure, or just talking nonsense.
Kit
As a newly-formed side in 2017, the question “what to wear” kept us busy over several pub sessions. We agreed quite quickly about the avoidance of white trousers and that we should adopt a monochrome theme. We also decided that rather than having a uniform, having coherent but personal kit was the way we would… Continue reading Kit
